About RoboSub and RoboNation • RoboSub is an international competition designed to advance the development of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and develop relationships between young engineers and the organizations developing and using AUV technologies. • Launched in 1997, RoboSub is celebrating 21 Years.
Each year we construct a submarine capable of completing a number of aquatic objectives entirely on its own. RoboNation is coming to your team online and ready to show off your team's progress. we have come to the decision to host RoboSub 2021 online. This decision was made with the safety and equity of all teams at the top of mind. So let's jump into the 24th RoboSub competition. The Robosub competition is an exciting underwater robotics program in which teams of high school and college students from around the world design and build AUVs.
RoboSub is an international student competition. Student teams from around the world design and build robotic submarines, otherwise known as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV). T he behaviors demonstrated by these experimental AUVs mimics those of real-world systems, currently deployed around the world for underwater exploration, seafloor mapping, and sonar localization, amongst many others. RoboSub is an international competition that invites participants to tackle simplified versions of challenges facing the underwater maritime industry. These challenges may include oceanographic exploration and mapping, detection and manipulation of objects, and pipeline identification and tracking.
“We love the opportunity to sponsor RoboNation. One of our main objectives attending RobotX and RoboSub was to recruit. These are the exact type of students that we want to come to work at Blue Origin – for internships or full time jobs.”

RoboNation, Inc. (previously the AUVSI Foundation) began operation in 2009 with generous support from AUVSI and three founding partners – SolidWorks, Northrop Grumman and Insitu (a Boeing company). Today, RoboNation is an independent, tax exempt, 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to provide a pathway of hands-on educational experiences that empower students to find innovative solutions to global challenges. SeaPerch and SeaGlide are cornerstones of RoboNation and often the beginning of a journey into robotics. It is where tomorrow’s innovators can start taking risks, making breakthroughs, and building robots today. Once you assemble your RoboSub team, your mission is to design your sub, or Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and get it to demonstrate its autonomy by completing a series of tasks.
